If you can look past the above issues, then get this game. There just isnt a big green arrow pointing at them. The answers are there, the clues are there. The times I have been well and truly stuck, a night sleep and new perspective has made all the difference. Often times you will kill an encounter that will drop the item for a completely different quest that you had given up on because you had absolutely no idea where to start looking. But pushing on will allow you to proceed deeper into the game. You WILL come to points where you have no idea what to do next. The game WILL NOT help you through the story line or quests. Progression after that is much better and more satisfying. Let me say though this changes once you hit level 5 and have the ability to start finishing some of the bigger quests. This gives the game a very slow feeling out of the gate. Character progression in the beginning is the slowest of any game I have ever played. Twice I have spend about a half hour organizing my inv to a manageable point so I could continue. The amount of junk loot is overwhelming, but you cannot ignore anything as you have no idea as to what might be needed in the future. The camera is VERY unwieldy and there have been several times I have "misclicked" in battle because the hotbar didnt register, or the thing I was clicking shifted position just as I was attacking. The most frustration comes from the interface. I have at times been quite frustrated and swore out loud, but very few, if any, games are so polished that these things can be avoided. Depending on what you are looking for in a RPG it is totally possible that a consumer may regret his/her purchase. I do understand the concerns of the negative reviews. But So far the experience has been very enjoyable. I am still in the second map, so I have no idea what the mid and end game are like. Larian keeps listening to the community and still strives to improve the game. The first pieces of community-driven content are already underway and the patching and post-release support is fast, active and to-the-point. In addition to the astounding brilliance in gameplay just from the original campaign, Divinity:OS also offers a complete construction kit and encourages a vibrant modding community. Every minute of play is a learning experience, adding new knowledge and depth to the game. A simple example of one of the many reasons you will be saving often, retrying encounters and redoing pieces of the game just to experience the myriad of possibilities every little sequence has to offer. Imagine destroying a boss made out of lava in one turn, only to walk past its corpse on the next and instantly killing yourself because that boss left a puddle of lava. Combat and character development rules are original, inventive and understandable, but unforgiving. Every single piece of environment presents a potential piece of the puzzle to your quest solution which adds greatly to playtime and a sense of discovery and natural immersion. Not once would I consider playing this game in a 3rd or 1st person perspective. Going back to the old-school isometric perspective feels like a sensible, logical and nostalgic choice that shows its merit throughout the whole game. Divinity:OS is best compared to classics like Baldur's Gate and older TES titles such as Morrowind. Divinity Original Sin does not even deserve a 10/10 in a way as it has been released with some uncanny design choices (mostly in the UI), but still gets the highest score because every other game element is so powerful and the game mechanics offer unsurpassed replayability, depth and tactical choice. Not often do I rate a game with 10 out of 10. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.
